So you're looking to make it so that customers can custom design their book/magazine online? or would they be feeding you the info and you would be compiling it yourself? I'm trying to figure out if the interface would need to be customer friendly, or just used by you and your staff.

It's similar idea (albeit in print form) to the Facebook year end videos that compile the highlights.

I believe the Facebook version encapsulates status updates, photos and posts. I believe there's a bit of dialogue/narration pre-populated by Facebook.

Judging solely by the amount of people who post their year end Facebook videos, I think there might be a solid customer base here.

Well, crush them all depends. Most social networks have something similar in the works - at least in a digital version - for free. You would have to give people a good reason to want to buy this - and not just so they can have a printed out version.

I would say you need to absolutely sit down and work out a business model, specifically outlining how this idea is different and will drive sales. Having a prototype doesn't hurt, but yeah...really make sure you aren't infringing on any copyrights and design patents.

I agree, with so much of social media being free, you would want to come up with a reason for people to hand over the cash.

I like it. It's very succinct. I would swap out the numbers for roman numerals. I think it adds an old school edge. Just an opinion.

Even with a good name, I don't see the motivational factor behind why to buy this. I think before you invest any more energy and time (and money) into this, you really need to answer that question first. If people could do this for free, why would they pay me to do it?

My main business is over social media, so it's nothing foreign to me. What I mean by free is that people can already have a digital scrapbook, if you will, of an entire year or history of their social media accounts. So that's not "new". The question would be then how big is the market that wants to pay to print this out in your format. Since we consume content more and more digitally, there would need to be a really good reason for wanting a physically printed copy. When I think of how we consume entertainment in general these days, it's through subscription services like Spotify and Netflix. When is the last time that you bought a physical copy of a CD or Video? Even print media is going increasingly digital: online magazines and newspapers, ebooks, etc. It seems that your idea is actually counter intuitive to the way that "technology is evolving," as you put it. I'm not saying your idea has no potential, I'm merely saying that you need to consider all of the angles and don't just run with it without thinking everything through first and being sure that you can indeed make a profit from it.

Have you been following Chatbooks? Similar concept, but picture based. They seem to be doing well https://chatbooks.com

That is a similar concept, yes. I will check out more about it, thanks Batman.

-- That is a great point. I intend to ask people at my college campus if they would consider buying this product. It is time in my project that I reach out to potential customers and find out if this is a viable idea. My entrepreneur group is working on this YearLit project and we have our competition presentations in about three weeks. I'm expecting to have a prototype and a market analysis in the next week or so.
An excellent step. Absolutely...do your research. That was all my advice was from the beginning. If you get a positive response, then you know there's a market for it, and then you can move forward. This way you don't waste money, time, and energy. You can also use the info gleaned from this research to show potential investors how big your test market is and how you anticipate this translating to a wider market, which can help to get your project better funded in the end.

I would love to hear how it goes and how many people are interested.
